3vs3 exhibition match on the Finnish Floorball Federation Youtube channel

3vs3 with goalkeepers, small pitch and modified rules. What does it look like? Is it entertaining? And is it fun? The Finnish Floorball Federation produced a replay of the exhibition match which was played earlier this spring and has now posted it on its Youtube channel.

The exhibition match between two Finnish 1st Division teams – Hawks and M-Team was intended to test the 3vs3 format and its functionality – both from the game side and from the entertainment side. The idea is to develop and test new ways of playing within traditional floorball – not to replace it as stated in the Finnish Floorball Federation press release.

The exhibition match was planned and organized by the Finnish Floorball Federation, IFF, the sports hall company Arena Center and the equipment supplier FatPipe – players who all share the same concern: is the sport popular enough?

The match was played with modified rules. The playing time was 4×5 minutes, the pitch size 22×13 meters and the roster of 6 outfield players plus a goalkeeper and a coach. Fouls in defense result in a throw from the goalkeeper while after a foul in attack play continues with a free kick from the middle. The goalkeeper can also score a goal and when the ball leaves the ice, play continues with a goalkeeper throw-in instead of a throw-in. A 2-minute penalty results in a penalty shot.
