Roanoke, a 7-year-old boy, starts a YouTube channel during snow days

ROANOKE, Va. – Niles Rice has always had a passion for geography.

“When he was four years old, he was really in the States, I bought him puzzles and books and we went to the library,” said Niles’ mother, Brittany Osornio.

“I probably knew all their capitals, their flags and what they looked like,” Niles said.

Now 7 years old, Niles has moved countries and he’s combined his love for geography with his new hobby, YouTube.

“Welcome guys. It’s me, Nilez the Great. I make videos about every country in the world,” he said in one of his videos.

In the middle of the snowy days, the YouTube channel “Nilez le Grand” was born. The goal is to make a video about all the countries of the world.

“He’s been out of school since Monday, so I think Tuesday or Wednesday we’re like, ‘We have to do something. We’re going to go crazy,’ Osornio added.

His videos are educational, informative and entertaining.

“Canada is the second largest country in the world,” he said. “In Canada, they like to eat maple syrup and poutine. If you didn’t know what poutine is, it’s basically gravy on fries.

When it comes to what to talk about, it literally follows the book. He has a travel diary which contains all the countries. This is actually his second book, he read the first so much it was worn out.

“Every day he was in the bedroom reading it, flipping through the pages, taking it to the beach, to the pool…he always had this book with him.”

As he shares his knowledge of the countries with his growing audience, in the world of YouTube he puts “Nilez the Great” on the map.
